In the fields of Tangarpalli Block, Sundargarh district, Odisha, 47-year-old Anita Nayak is cultivating marigold flowers. More than just flowers, she is nurturing new opportunities through marigold farming.

Inspired by other marigold farmers in Sundargarh district, she began exploring flower cultivation in 2022 and has continued this journey for the past four years on approximately one acre of land.

Harvesting approximately 10 kg of marigold flowers on alternate days, Anita sells her produce in local retail markets in Jharsuguda at around ₹200 per kilogram. From January to May last year, she earned approximately ₹80,000 from her marigold cultivation.

She uses modern agricultural practices such as mulching technology and drip irrigation. In fact, Anita promotes efficient water use and improved crop management.

Her farming enterprise also creates employment opportunities for other women, contributing to rural livelihoods and women's economic empowerment.

Anita Nayak's journey demonstrates how inspiration, modern farming practices, and market connections can create promising livelihood opportunities. Her story is not just about growing flowers; it is about nurturing aspirations, empowering women, and cultivating new possibilities for rural agriculture in Odisha.
