Message

Our organization, a dedicated social enterprise, aims to transform rural economies by fostering rural enterprise and entrepreneurship, focusing particularly on small and marginal farmers, women, and migrant workers. Through our core pillars— Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) promotion and CSR support—we provide essential services, including input facilitation, technology integration, advisory, market linkages, and access to finance.

We currently work with 54 FPOs, supporting over 25,000 farmers who cultivate approximately 37,500 acres. By collaborating with governmental bodies, industry, academia, and international institutions, we deliver training, expos, and exposure visits to build capacity and commercial sustainability, benefiting thousands more in rural communities indirectly. This collective-driven approach creates a robust ecosystem for sustainable rural development.

Livelihood is paramount in middle-income countries like India as it directly influences economic stability, social well-being, and overall development.

Livelihoods serve as the bedrock of economic, social, and environmental progress in middle-income countries, shaping the path toward sustainable development and a better quality of life. It is against this backdrop that Livelihood Alternatives (LA) was conceived, aiming to build an empowering ecosystem for rural enterprise and entrepreneurship.

As a social enterprise, Livelihood Alternatives is committed to empowering rural communities by offering livelihood options that are Suitable, Scalable, and Sustainable. LA’s vision is ambitious yet grounded in achievable targets: by 2026, it strives to positively impact 3,00,000 households across Odisha, aligning with its mission to build resilience and foster inclusive growth. The organization adheres to the “6Cs” principles—Collectivization, Capacity-Building, Collaboration, Convergence, Commercialization, and Community Outreach—to reach this goal.

In Odisha, while individual efforts in agriculture and rural development often shine, collective economic transformations have faced challenges. Many collaborative initiatives lose momentum after the initial project period, lacking the long-term support required to sustain impact. LA seeks to bridge this gap, providing ongoing mentorship, managerial support, and technical guidance to build the capacities and skills that will enable these collective ventures to succeed sustainably.

To achieve these goals, LA actively collaborates with enterprises, academic institutions, technology firms, procurement agencies, and agro-support providers. Partnering with central and state government schemes allows LA to amplify its efforts, maximizing impact through convergence and alignment with existing initiatives.

By contributing to an inclusive and participatory Indian growth story, LA envisions Odisha’s rural landscape as the starting point of its transformative journey. Through dedicated efforts, LA seeks to unlock the immense potential within Odisha’s rural hinterlands, catalyzing a social experiment that aspires to uplift communities and promote a more equitable future for all.
