Livelihood Alternatives at the Global Dryland Congress 2026, New Delhi

Livelihood Alternatives (LA) is honoured to participate in the Global Dryland Congress 2026, jointly organised by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The Congress convenes scientists, policymakers, farmers, and development practitioners from across the world to exchange knowledge and advance solutions for food security, climate resilience, water scarcity, and sustainable agriculture.

At the Congress, LA presented field-based innovations and sustainable livelihood models that demonstrates how technology, farmer institutions, knowledge, and markets can converge to create lasting impact for rural communities:

Natural Farming — Promoting chemical-free agricultural practices that improve soil health, reduce input costs, and strengthen climate resilience through the use of locally available, eco-friendly resources.

Banana Biochar — Turning agricultural residues such as banana stems, leaves and peduncles into a valuable, potassium-rich soil amendment through pyrolysis technology, creating a waste-to-wealth pathway.

LAAHR (Livelihood Alternatives Aquatic Harvester) — A solar-powered innovation addressing invasive aquatic weed proliferation while unlocking biomass recovery, composting, and rural enterprise opportunities — turning an ecological challenge into a circular economy solution.

Through these initiatives, LA remains committed to transforming environmental challenges into sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers, self-help groups, rural youth, and local entrepreneurs.
